Tom Brady Knows: You are the Sum of All Your Training

Posted Tuesday, October 13, 2015

Tom Brady and Stephen Curry star in hypnotic versions of the same commercial for Under Armour. The message is simple, what happens on game day isn’t magic—it’s work. It’s training.

We keep forgetting. There is no such thing as an overnight success.

In the summer of 2013, a California voice teacher by the name of Sarah Horn bought tickets to the nosebleed section of famous Broadway singer Kristin Chenoweth. Little did she know that with multiple twists of fate, she would end up on stage--nearly upstaging--her childhood idol and having video of the event go viral to the tune of 3 million plus views.

A few months later, she did a TEDx presentation debunking her overnight success. (With 0.01% of the views) As she says, the viral video didn't show the thousands of hours of voice training, the hundreds of hours teaching voice lessons to others, and the dozens of hours spent singing that very song as a part of her passion for Broadway music. Yes, she was lucky to be chosen that night but few if anyone in that audience could have been more ready.

Tom Brady and Stephen Curry know. Sarah Horn knows.

You know.

You are the sum of all your training.

You are what you practice.

Practice makes people.

What are you practicing? What are you being/doing daily?

Take a look at your life.

What have you been practicing to become for most of your life? Does that resemble you now? What do you want to become? Are you practicing that right now?

I'm wanting a world where we are all practicing how to become better versions of ourselves.

More Authenticity. More Love. More Creativity. More Friendship. More Happiness. More Joy. More Peace. More Significance. More Growth.

I challenge you to take a look at this list--or add your own highest value. What is it that you want to practice more of in your life? What value really touches you.

What will you do to practice it this week? Today?

I’m starting a free webinar series called Practice Makes People. For more info and to sign-up, click here
