Poetry is a clear window into the heart. I often write to express the thoughts and emotions inside me--not knowing what will appear on the page but invariably discovering more about myself and the world around me.

To Be A Dog

Posted Monday, March 21, 2011

To make a difference
To be loved
To save a life
By simply being me
To be cared for
Made safe
Given a warm bed
To be noticed
To be heard

To play
And play
And play
With abandon
With my family

To feel the mood
The anxiety
The calmness
And be there
Stay there

To live from instinct
Door bell
Precious sleep
And know
That’s me
I want to please
But I can’t stop being me
I’ll lick your face
Wag my tail
And get you full of hair
I’m just being me
To be a dog
Is easy
It’s living
It’s worry-free
It’s me
