Poetry is a clear window into the heart. I often write to express the thoughts and emotions inside me--not knowing what will appear on the page but invariably discovering more about myself and the world around me.

What We Need

Posted Friday, August 10, 2012

Teenage lovers know
We knew too
We forgot

We need people
We need commitment
We need loyalty
We need vows of partnership
We can't do life alone

We try
To be OK
Alone

People disappoint
People betray
People are human

So
We try
To be OK
Alone

Then
Then we become
Teenage lovers again
We get it
Understand our need
Our want

And
We're afraid
Still
In our fear
We hold on
To our needs

Partnership
Belonging
Togetherness
And the crucible of love
